Don’t Buy – Gloria Artus –
I bought this TV March 15, 2008 based on the reviews here on Amazon. The picture was stunning when we got it hooked up. Shame on me for not doing further research. I just spent 7.69 on November 2, 2009 to replace the power supply board which it turns out is quite common with this TV. Now 20 minutes after turning the set on the whole screen flickers and greys out in the middle which sounds like the panel itself to me but I’ll let the repairman coming Thursday make that call. Samsung’s attitude is so sorry, we don’t reimburse for repairs already completed (had it done myself because they wanted me to ship it to Plano, TX). They did agree to extend the parts only warranty but any labor would “be on you.” The labor on the previous repair was 2. For the first 18 months the picture was beautiful and had I reviewed it then would have given this set a 5 star. However, I am giving it a 1 star based on Samsung’s refusal to address a known problem with their power supply boards and their “parts only” offer of extended warranty. The bright spot in all this is that my credit card is reimbursing me for the completed repair and will look at the estimate for the current repair. Frankly, if it’s the panel that would cost almost as much as buying a new set. Trust me, if it comes to that the new set won’t be a Samsung.

Bought the tv in the fall of ’07 for just under 3k.
We had done our homework and this was a good buy at the time.
Pink pixels started appearing and we called a Samsung repairguy. He said that it would cost too much to repair and to buy a new one (around 1300). I looked up the problem online and MANY other people are having the same problem with this model.
Luckily, we had purchased an extended warranty but it expired last week. But Amazon has a 30 day grace period so another repair guy is coming out next week. Wish us luck!

We have had the LNT5265FX since April of 2008. We did all the searches and went through oodles of review websites. As you will see on most reviews it is a 5 star when everyone first gets it. This TV was great at first, everything we hoped. Here is the kicker. Having it 16 months (right after the warranty of course) the capacitors have gone out. We didn’t know this at first but going back to the same review sites that we had before, we are seeing a BIG pattern. Around 14-16 month these capacitors are going out. Now this wasn’t just one review this was to many to count. All having the exact same problem. Even some of the smaller model Samsungs with a similar board are also having this problem. I called Samsung like so many others have called Samsung to hear “We haven’t been getting any notification of this type of problem” It is funny that it was word for word what others have written on their postings. They must be reading it off their screen. They will appologize and tell you there is nothing they can do but set up a service person to come out and take a look (at your expense).
Here is where I am at this point. Samsung is no help. Luckily by using my Visa card I have a double warranty on the TV and am currently going through those channels.
Broke twice within 13 months (12 month warranty) – Daniel Young –
I bought this item and everything seemed perfect. About three months later there was a circle of dead pixels in the top right corner (about the size of a dime) and every day a few more died. After a month I had a line three feet long of dead pixels. Contacted Samsung and one month later a repairman replaced the entire screen. (00 bill paid by Samsung due to warranty, it was a little over 00 when I bought it)
I received a notice saying my warranty was going to expire and it would be somewhere around 0 for three more years. I thought what are the odds of two problems like that, most electronics last 4-6yrs without problems.
One week after the warranty expired when I turned on the TV there were purple pixels scattered throughout the screen. Turn off the TV and turn it on to fix the problem. About a week later when turning on the TV it would turn itself off, then on, then off, and on, for about five minutes.
The off/on cycle has gotten worse over the past few months so I searched for a fix and found that it’s a common problem, typically after the warranty expires.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
